How did you come up with the idea for Sidelined by love?

It’s actually the second book in the series about the Logan Family. I outlined and started his sister Nikki Logan’s story, Strike Three… You’re Mine! first.  But Brock and Gabby wouldn’t have it! My writing leans towards the comedic, regardless of the premise.  I wanted a story with two diametrically-opposed characters that had fallen in love in high school, came back and, despite their difference, can’t help but fall in love again.

What was it about your book that made your editor want to buy it?

I have no idea, but I’m certainly glad she did! I was pretty naïve when I started writing romance, and this story had most of the elements of what supposedly can’t sell in romance—a comedy about a sports hero and a heroine who runs a bunny and worm composting farm; her gay father and his partner; a porn star mom who’s pregnant; lots of Spanish without translation. The Wild Rose Press prides itself in publishing well-written, non-traditional romances other publishing houses won’t touch. I’m just thankful they chose to publish mine!

What was the most difficult aspect of writing Sidelined by Love?

Definitely the sex scenes, especially when I thought about my family, my own children and their friends, reading my work. But once I got over the initial reticence, the writing went pretty smoothly.

What is your process for writing a book? For example, are you a plotter or a pantzer?  Do you start at page 1 and write your book sequentially or do you skip around? Do you start with your characters or the plot?

I’m definitely a pantser, but the characters and story are pretty much plotted out in my brain before I even get started. I pick a point in time to start the story and then it just takes off. I’d like to say it writes itself, but we all know that isn’t the case. Just a matter of sitting butt in chair and writing!
